manifestationI’ll be publishing a series on Law of Attraction misconceptions to help those who are curious, yet confused, about this Universal law.  Feel free to contact me with any information you’d like to see added to the series.

Misconception #1 - You can use Law of Attraction to manifest anything that you want—money, fame, perfect health, a better looking body, etc…

Many people’s interest in Universal Law of Attraction is purely based on a desire to use it as a tool to get things that they want.  This is often because of the context in which they learn about Law of Attraction.

The movie The Secret presented Law of Attraction as an aid for getting rich quick (among other things).  People spoke of how simple it is to imagine money and then have it quickly manifest you’re your life.  Intriguing, right?  That movie, and similar Law of Attraction sources, offers an oversimplified yet overdramatized presentation of Law of Attraction.  Although the information given is not false, it leaves out a lot of important details.

Many people were so intrigued by The Secret and the concept of Law of Attraction that they immediately started imagining themselves rich, famous, or healthy.  But disappointment sets in when they don’t get the fast, easy manifestations that they were told to expect.  They often walk away feeling that it was all a hoax or wondering what they did wrong.  Why?  It is not because Law of Attraction is not real.  It is not because it just doesn’t work for some people.  This Universal law is very real and it is always working.

The first mistake people make is to try working Law of Attraction to make things happen.  Instead of attempting to use or work the Universe, you simply need to allow it.  Your “work” is only to think in a way that does not resist your desires.  For most people, this requires some personal and spiritual growth.

If you’re a person who has been thinking a certain way for 20, 40, or 90 years, it is highly unlikely that you will find it easy to begin thinking in a way that allows speedy manifesting.  The mere act of trying to rush manifestation usually indicates that you don’t trust the Universe.  If you’re thinking “I have to think about being rich all the time so that Law of Attraction will send me a lot of money,” the underlying thoughts may indicate very resistant beliefs.

Why do you really want large sums of money?  Maybe your parents always showed you that money was hard to manage and harder to live without.  You may want to stockpile money for security because you feel vulnerable to lack.  You may not believe that you will always have what you need, so you want to eliminate the worry by having a fortune that you can keep tabs on in your bank accounts.  However, it is your worry and fear that you need to deal with.  Rid yourself of your negative, resistant underlying beliefs because that is what the Universe is responding to.  Those deeply held beliefs, not the fleeting good thoughts that you don’t really believe, are creating your life.

If you believe that you are fat, poor, dumb, cursed, stuck at a bad job, vulnerable to crime, or somehow unfortunate, the Universe will send you proof that matches your belief.  If you change that belief to something more aligned with your life’s true purpose, Law of Attraction will manifest improved circumstances to match your improved belief.

Instead of trying to work Law of Attraction, be honest with yourself about your core beliefs.  Figure out what unconscious or subconscious thoughts are creating your reality–and realize that you are empowered to change them, thus allowing the manifestation of your every desire.
