Health and Wellness Self Improvement Information (Weight Loss)

Nobody enjoys going on a diet and nobody wants to be fat.  However, many people feel compelled to choose between the two.  Well, not anymore.   Whether you’re looking to lose a few pounds or maintain your perfect figure, these healthy eating tips will help you to remain satisfied while creating the body of your dreams:

  • Apply the “French secret”

frenchmeal2Despite a diet that includes cheeses, breads, sweets, wine, and every cut of meat you can imagine, most French women are healthy, slender ladies who don’t diet or get fat.

Instead of feeling anxious about food, they savor every single morsel.  Instead of obsessing over fat and calories, they appreciate the quality of every dining experience.

If you believe in the powerful connection between the mind and body, then you can understand the benefits of having a positive mental approach to eating.  Obsessing about food and dieting almost always results in the very problems we worry about: weight gain, eating disorders, and body image issues.  So, stop obsessing and start enjoying.

  • Downsize the plates

Many of us find ourselves having a flashback to the childhood days when we were encouraged to eat all of our food and “make a happy plate.”  We don’t want to waste food, yet we feel deprived if the plate looks empty.  So, why not make a smaller happy plate?  There is no law that says you need a 12 inch plate sitting there encouraging you to add oversized servings.  By using salad plates as dinner plates, you can have both a full plate and reasonably sized portions.

  • Upgrade the table setting

Using tableware that matches your personality is another great way to enhance the dining experience.  You don’t have to buy expensive china, just get something that isn’t drab and boring.  To make it even more fun, opt for an exciting theme.  This will be particularly exciting if you have children.  You can find cute, plastic sets at party stores that have Barbie or Superman.  If you want something a little more grown-up, try an Asian or Hawaiian theme.  The idea is simply to make it fun to eat meals at home.

  • Experience the food rainbow

To help with making your meals more enjoyable and nutritious, brighten them up with more colors.  If you’ve been eating green beans or broccoli as your side item every night, add some steamed carrots or squash.  Make a pact with your spouse, kids, or self to rotate colors every few days.  Try every color in the rainbow.  Because food colors indicate different types of vitamins and minerals, this is a great way to see that you’re giving your body the variety of nutrients that it needs.

  • Eat more often

Typically, we think of eating less when we think of a diet.  However, cutting back too much can lower your metabolism and cause your body to pack on the pounds.  Most people find that it is far more effective to eat at least 4-5 meals each day. You should start each day with an energizing breakfast, eat at least 5 fruits and non-starchy vegetables, and enjoy small meals throughout the day.  There is no better way to stave off hunger while nourishing your body.

  • Avoid boredom with variety

Grilled chicken breasts are a standard item for dieting American women, but our bodies crave change.  You’re far more likely to indulge in fast food or sweet treats when you’re bored with the foods that you eat. Try keeping your mind and body satisfied by adding fish, turkey, and lean cuts of beef to your diet.

law-of-attraction-diet2 If apples and oranges are your fruits of choice, it’s time to add some new favorites.  Berries, which are richer in antioxidants and lower in sugar than other fruits, are a wonderful addition to any diet. However, you may also enjoy kiwi, mango, cantaloupe, and potassium rich bananas.

Whatever you do, don’t bore yourself into dietary hell.

  • Go fishing.

You don’t have to literally go fishing in order to enjoy the benefit of this wonderful protein source.  Fish supplies the healthy fats that we need in our diets, so add it to the menu at least 2 days each week.  If you don’t typically like the smell or taste of fish, try a light, meaty fish like Mahi Mahi or Bass.  These options will give you the chicken-like texture and mild flavor to which you may be accustomed.  To make it even better, use a variety of spices, herbs, and marinades that tantalize your taste buds.

  • No more distractions

Whatever you do, don’t eat while driving or watching television.  This type of mindless eating is one of the biggest reasons that we pack on the pounds.  You owe it to yourself to stop whatever you’re doing so that you can properly nourish your body.  By sitting down to eat without distractions, you will find it easier to notice your body’s satiety signals.  If you’re on the phone while eating dinner, there is a huge chance that you won’t be satisfied by the meal and you’ll want to eat again soon.

I found myself eating ALOT, so what I did was just drink a bunch of water whenever I got the urge to eat. I would also make sure I got a good breakfast. If I eat alot of fruit in the morning, it not only gives me more energy, but the extra fiber keeps me feeling full. Especially when I drink alot of water. I also try to keep healthy snacks at my work desk, like raw nuts or seeds. Something that will help give me flavor and fill my belly. Great list!
