Several times I’ve found myself out and about in the middle of a “bad” storm. Thunder, lighting, hail, and even tornadoes seem to sweep in without my knowledge. This drives my mom crazy.
The fact that her only child is so opposed to watching the News that even weather warnings go unnoticed…it scares her. But you know what scares me? Being subjected to all the negative news stories.
Theoretically, I understand the value of watching the news. We can learn what is going on around us and heed multiple warnings. But it seems as if there is a hugely disproportionate focus on the worst of the worst.
How might I benefit from hours of threatening news coverage that leaves me with the same dreadful feelings as a horror movie? Do I need to know the horrific details of every murder, execution, rape, robbery, deadly storm, and fatal car accident?
To me, this is not news. It is fear-inducing crap! And I don’t care to watch it—not even to see what the weather man thinks I should frightfully expect from Mother Nature.
If avoiding the mainstream news means that I miss out on severe weather updates, so be it! All is well in my world and I have no reason to be afraid.
For anyone who is equally frustrated with the mainstream and local news,I’ve decided to put together a summary of a few positive news articles that gave me a warm smile instead of a chill up my spine.
Enjoy the good news.
Wedding Rings Found In 10 Ton Dump

Determined to help a husband who accidentally tossed his wife’s wedding rings out with the trash, New Jersey sanitation workers rummaged through 10 tons of trash.
Operation find-that-wedding-ring was a success. The Pericolos are beyond thankful to have the rings, which have represented their marriage for 55 years, back on Angela Pericolo’s finger.
What an amazing and positive ending! The couple, and the sanitation workers, are convinced this was a miracle.
Despite the media focus on health care crisis, there are wonderful people everywhere who are stepping up to aid fellow Americans.
One nonprofit organization, the National Association of Free Clinics, is sponsoring well organized health fairs in various U.S. cities. The next free event will be in New Orleans on November 21, 2009. Popular radio stations, such as the Michael Baisden Show, are heavily promoting this organization’s efforts—and it is paying off. Highly qualified doctors and nurses are showing up to dedicate their time to assist those who wouldn’t otherwise have access to health care. Now that’s good news!!
Inspiring Greyhound Spreads Her Love
Jasmine, an abandoned, abused, and thankfully rescued greyhound has become like a surrogate mother to other animals brought into the safe haven where she now lives.
At the Nuneaton Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary in New England, Jasmine has nurtured, befriended, cuddled, and provided positive reassurance for 5 fox cubs, 4 badger cubs, 15 rabbits a dear fawn, 15 chicks, 8 guinea pigs, and 2 stray puppies. She does a phenomenal job of calming the animals’ anxiety, giving affection, and showing them that they are in a safe place.
Kid Lost in the Forest Creates a Positive Outcome
A quick-thinking 9 year old lost in Ashley National Forest was found safely after enduring darkness and heavy rain throughout his 18 hours alone in the thick woods.
Grayson Wynne used wilderness survival tips he’d seen while watching Man v.s. Wild with his dad and brother.
Rather than simply panic, Grayson thought to leave a trail of clues that helped searchers locate him. What clues? Pieces of his raincoat. He tore them off and tied them to trees as he tried to find his way to safety. When Grayson saw helicopters, he began feverishly waving a piece of the yellow rain slicker in the air. Searches and loved ones couldn’t have asked for a more positive outcome.

Wow! I just found your site via Marc and Angel and I’m so glad I did. You’ve got a great place here and I’m looking forward to reading through your posts.
Nea, I’m with you 100%. We do not need to know every bad thing that goes on in the whole world. Our ancestors only knew what happened in their village. This world negative news gives us a very warped view of the world around us and I’m convinced it is terrible for us.
