How many times have you started a new year focused intently on changing things that you disliked about your life? And how many times have you noticed that those same issues roll over into the next year, and the next year, and the next year?
If you’re like most people, it’s probably too many to count. However, with a new approach, that can change in 2010.
Appreciate the Past & Embrace the Present
As you wind down one year in anticipation of new beginnings, it is a wonderful idea to give thanks for all that is presently worth appreciating. This is a perfect way to put life into perspective and to start the New Year on a positive note.
One great tip is to write an “I love” list, which includes all of the people and things that bring joy to your life. For me, having this list on paper offers an opportunity to reflect on just how wonderful my life has been for the last year, month, day, and hour.
From my dog’s smelly kisses to my cozy bed; from belly-aching laughs with friends to mornings where I have all green traffic lights….my world is filled with opportunities to appreciate. And so is yours.
With a positive outlook on the past and present, you can rest assured that the year to come will be a delight.
Conscious Allowing Instead of Unconscious Resisting
If you read the Self Improvement Saga blog post titled, No Means Yes: Law of Attraction and Manifestation Resistance, you may already understand the impact of focusing on what you don’t want instead of focusing on what you do want.
The basic premise is this: In our inclusion-based Universe, disappointment awaits those who give the majority of their attention to life’s problems and misfortunes while expecting a positive outcome. So, make sure that your New Year’s resolutions are centered on the joy that you expect to feel—not the dissatisfaction that you may have felt up to this point.
Renewed New Year’s Resolution
If you’re one of the millions of people whose New Year’s resolution is to lose weight, there’s a huge chance that the thoughts behind this resolution are negatively focused on what is wrong with your body. You may be disappointed that some of your favorite clothes no longer fit or you have an unsightly bulge in the middle. Worse yet, you may be experiencing health problems related to your food intake and/or lack of exercise.
These may be the facts, but you can focus your attention on the new reality that you desire. Imagine what it will feel like to reach your goal. See yourself in that new body and notice how good it feels. Now, instead of pledging to lose weight, work towards intermediate goals that match this positive state of mind. Need an example?
Typical New Years Resolution: Lose 50 pounds and exercise every day
Renewed New Year’s Resolution: Love my body, treat my body with respect, and take time to appreciate the foods that I eat
If your resolution is to get a new car, see yourself driving it. See the smile on your face and feel the appreciation in your heart. Stay with these feelings of fulfillment as you get behind the wheel of your current vehicle, for these feelings have a very different point of attraction than the feeling of needing or yearning for a new car.
With your renewed focus, you’ve replaced a state of resistance with a state of allowing. And positive manifestations are no stranger to those who allow them.
May your day and year to come be filled with as much joy as you can handle. Have a Happy New Year.

The key to new year’s resolutions regarding health/weight is to set a reachable goal for yourself and be proactive about it. Instead of saying to yourself, “I want to lose 50 pounds”, rather set a manageable goal like 10 pounds and help yourself get there. I found this wellness guide online from Jillian Michaels and she has stuff on there that will help you get up and get out. http://www.gifts.com/ideas/jillian-michaels-wellness-guide As she noted, I can only work out with music. So get yourself an ipod. If you don’t like going to the gym, work out in the comfort and privacy of your home to a DVD. And lastly, be more conscious of what you eat. Like you said, love your body and treat it with respect. And you’ll be sure to getting yourself on the right path. Happy New Year!
Thank you so much, there aren’t enough posts on this… or at least i cant find them. I am turning into such a blog nut, I just cant get enough and this is such an important topic… i’ll be sure to write something about your site
Wonderful post. I definintely agree with all that you have written, especially your comments on setting weightloss goals. In the last 6 weeks I have lost 15lbs and I have not even spent 5 minutes exercising. I know that I am losing weight because I have changed my opinion of my body. I have developed a healthy love for and appreciation of myself and therefore my body is changing to suit how I feel about it.
You have a great blog here, I will be sure to return.
Interesting view on new year’s resolutions. I must say I do like your approach. The “i love” list seems much better than the usual resolution.
