You may or may not have set a New Year’s resolution for 2011, but one thing is for sure. If you’re on this site, you’re never opposed to improving your life.
The list below includes 11 self improvement ideas that you can use as suggestions for living your best life as we move into a brand new year.
1. Use alternative/natural health remedies
Doctor visits, hospital stays, and prescription drugs are outrageous. From the costs and inconveniences, to the misdiagnoses and side effects; they are distressing at best. Learning to maintain your health, prevent diseases and treat illnesses the natural way is an awesome step towards living a better life. Throughout 2011, I will be happy to share more of my natural health secrets with you.
2. Sharpen your communication skills.
Unless you’re a total hermit (which is an issue within itself) you can benefit significantly from improved communication skills. Think I’m wrong? Ask your spouse, children and boss if you have room for improvement in that area? I think we all do.
Maybe you’d be more effective if you learned to scale back aggressiveness, listen more effectively, speak up for yourself or turn passive-aggressive behavior into assertion. Whatever the case may be, great communication skills improve your relationships both at home and in the business world.
3. Improve your body
I’m sure many of you have set a New Year’s resolution to lose weight and/or get in shape. That’s great except for one problem—you’re most likely unmotivated since you put it off until a new year. One great way to get motivated for physical self improvement is to find a way to love it. [Read the full blog article →]

“Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on”
It’s the end of 2010 and I know one thing that nearly everyone is doing—preparing their New Year’s resolutions. I love the idea of setting goals and striving for positive change, but I have one question: What is stopping you?
A new year is a good time for new beginnings, but an even better time is RIGHT NOW. What stopped you last week or the year before? What stops any of us.
If you truly want something, why wait another day, month or year to go after it? In fact, how can you even bear the delay?
Before you write down another list of New Year’s resolutions that will be broken before March, I encourage you to do something a little different. [Keep Reading Inspirational Thoughts]

“He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the world.” ~Marcus Aurelius

The Role of Congruence in Life
If you’re like most people, the word congruence brings to mind little more than images of triangles, protractors or that ‘D’ you got in geometry class. But how does congruence apply to self improvement and to the art of joyful living?
Congruence in life is represented by harmony between your values, thoughts, desires, and choices. When that harmony is lacking, life is frustrating and success is elusive. Let’s take a look at how a life of congruence can turn your frustration with life on its ass.
Congruence as a Communication Skill
Of the many ways that congruence aids success, its value as a communication skill tops the list. One major reason for this is that many people, particularly women, are excessive “people pleasers.” They want to do what is necessary; however, they don’t want to upset anyone. So, a stern demand may be delivered hesitantly; serious concerns stated with nervous body language; critical feedback given with wavering eye contact; anger expressed with a meek tone of voice. This lack of congruence in communication is the source of many misunderstandings. But why is that? [Read the full blog article →]

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.”
–Ambrose Redmoon

It is my hope that today’s inspirational words will encourage you to live fearlessly. But what exactly does that mean?
To Live Fearlessly
No matter who you are, fear will get in your way at some point during your life. It doesn’t matter how strong, bold, powerful, smart or enlightened you are. Fear is a reality that we just can’t escape. Fearless living isn’t about taking that fear away, leaving behind some superhuman immunity to fear. It’s simply about having the courage to move through it. When your life doesn’t reach a standstill in the face of things you can’t predict, explain, rationalize, or finance; you are indeed learning to live fearlessly.
Life is meant to be the grandest of adventures. But how can you live it fully while busy running from all that you’re afraid of? I’m not suggesting that you dash outside to jump off a building. That would be an act of stupidity rather than courage. What I am suggesting is that you muster enough courage to push through fear when it stands in the way of living the life that you deserve. It’s quite disheartening to see people who love each other hold a grudge so deeply that they completely turn their backs on each other. But we all know that it happens. We treasure the people in our lives, but there are times when forgiveness and love take a backseat to pride and negativity.
Attempts to compromise lead to frustration. Frustration leads to ultimatums. Ultimatums lead to resentment. And resentment leads to holding a grudge instead of a loved one.
Why Hold a Grudge?
What differences could be so great that they crush the loving bonds of parents and children, husbands and wives, sisters, brothers, lovers, and best friends? Unfortunately, the differences aren’t always as major as you may think.
Oftentimes it’s as simple as a small argument that gets out of control. Before you know it, someone has said or done something hurtful. Add a little retaliation to the mix and you have what I call a “selfishness standoff.” [...Keep Reading Forgiveness and Anger]

It’s the Holiday Season; but if you ask me, every season is the season for sharing, caring, and generosity.
Beginning with Monday’s Inspirational Words segment, Make a Difference Helping Others, my focus this week has been on giving back. I don’t mean just writing a check to a charity or dropping coins in the Salvation Army bucket outside your local grocery store. I’m talking about going that extra mile to give of yourself in ways that make a difference in this world.
If you’re feeling equally inspired to do your part in making the world a little brighter, you’ll love this list of 50 ways to give back, help others, and make a difference.
1. Plant a tree to help the planet.
2. Skip the trip to Sea World. Donate the money to save the dolphins.
3. Rescue a pet.
4. Volunteer as a teacher’s assistant.
5. Donate sturdy shoes, thick socks and winter coats.
6. Give warm biscuits to people living on the street.
7. Start a food drive with your family and friends.
8. Donate blood, plasma, and/or platelets.
9. Join or create a support group.
10. Console someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one.
11. Help someone find a job.
12. Help clean or cover-up graffiti. [Read more ways to give back...]

“Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day.” Sally Koch
In a world where there is so much poverty, hunger, illness, and pain; it sometimes seems impossible to make a difference. Have you ever felt that way? “I am just one person,” you may think, “How can I make a difference in the world?”
You may have given money to a homeless man, just to see him begging on the same corner the next day. Maybe you’ve signed petitions to protect animals or reduced your carbon footprint to help the environment. Still the problems remain. Moreover, each time one problem improves, another one takes its place. Have you really made a difference? Is it even worth trying to make a difference?
“In helping others, we shall help ourselves, for whatever good we give out completes the circle and comes back to us.” Flora Edwards
There’s so much to do—save the whales, feed the children, house the homeless, war on drugs, save the planet, end war, fight cancer. The desire to make a difference disintegrates into feelings of powerlessness as it crashes into the seemingly unconquerable brick wall of problems. Today’s inspirational words are meant to remind you that YOU are an important part of the solution.
When you’re doing all you can and you don’t see significant change, it may feel like a total waste of time, energy, resources and emotions. But that is never the case.
Powerlessness is a figment of the imagination. It is only as real as you allow it to be in your mind’s eye. An attempt to help is never meaningless, never without value. Change and effort, even on the most miniscule scale, always outshine apathy. [Keep Reading Inspirational Thoughts]

I hope that what you see is the limitlessness of your potential; but I know many of you see something far more disappointing.
In an effort to further nudge you towards loving and believing in yourself, I’ve put together this list of quotes on self confidence. May you find encouragement in these wise words and begin building self confidence one day at a time. You, more than anyone else, are deserving of your own faith.
